Worldcoin, a project that allows people to have their eyes scanned to prove their humanity, has suffered another setback in Europe.

A data regulator has halted the project for 90 days in Portugal after a similar ban was imposed in Spain earlier this month.

As reported by Reuters, the Portuguese data regulator CNPD has stated that there is a high risk to citizens' data protection rights, warranting immediate action.

The regulator has also noted that more than 300,000 people in Portugal have provided their biometric data to Worldcoin.

However, Tools for Humanity, the project's main software partner, insists that Worldcoin complies with all laws and regulations related to the collection and transfer of biometric data.
