According to the Cambridge Bitcoin Electricity Consumption Index, or CBECI, an index developed by researchers at the University of Cambridge (UoC) to track the total electricity consumption of the bitcoin network, the annual electricity consumed by connected but inactive U.S. devices would be enough to power the bitcoin network for 4 years.

This is due to the fact that when a device is on standby, it still consumes electricity.

Some experts advise consumers to completely unplug their electronic devices when they are not in use because even though the power they consume when they are in standby mode is almost insignificant, it would still affect the electricity bill.

If we consider the matter from a different perspective, the power consumed by the bitcoin network in a whole year would be more than enough to power all tea kettles for 1.5 years in Europe.
