The Japanese publication The Mainichi reported today that Mt.Gox's former CEO, Mark Karpeles, has revealed that he is going to serve as CTO in a Japanese blockchain startup.

He said he "wants to help Japan become a world leader in the blockchain industry."

His new company, which has been registered in Japan, aims to create a new secure operating system much faster than the current systems.

Karpeles moved to Japan in 2009 and acquired the now defunct Mt.Gox Bitcoin exchange in 2011. He became popular worldwide after the platform suffered a hacker attack that resulted in the loss of around 850,000 Bitcoins.

He was arrested in 2015 by the Japanese police accused of manipulating the trading volume on the exchange prior to its collapse in 2014.

Karpeles has said recently that at the moment he does not hold any cryptocurrencies and that they are a high risk asset.
