The oldest continuously-operating exchange, Bitstamp, announced it has appointed former Coinbase's Head of Trading, Hunter Merghart as the Head of U.S. Operations.

In his new role, Merghart will be responsible for working with new and existing customers, with an emphasis on serving institutional clients. Merghart will be based in New York and will spearhead the opening of Bitstamp’s New York office, notes the official announcement.

Merghart also served as Director of Trading at British multinational investment bank Barclays, Vice President at RBC Capital Markets, and was an associate at Credit Suisse Group AG.

"We are excited to have Hunter join our team at a time of strategic growth at Bitstamp," said Bitstamp CEO, Nejc Kodrič.

"He’s the perfect person to lead our U.S. operations, which includes making sure our retail and institutional investors have a platform and service that is equal to what they would find at any traditional exchange anywhere in the world," he added.

Previously, Bitstamp announced a partnership with one of the leading Swiss online banks, Dukascopy Bank, to enable crypto funding on its platform.
