Facebook may be deepening its bet on the blockchain ecosystem.
The social media network (NASDAQ: FB) has reportedly acquired Chainspace, a small blockchain startup founded by researchers from the University College London, according to news shared by Cheddar yesterday.
In consonance with Cheddar’s sources the acquisition was carried out essentiality for the skills and expertise of the startup’s team — now joining Facebook — and not exactly for the service and products it offers.
This is a move known as an “acqui-hire” — and signals, indeed, Facebook’s goal to be a prominent player in the industry.
