Bitfinex Cryptocurrency Exchange has suspended the ability to place deposits in US dollars and “expects the situation to normalize within a week”, The Block portal writes, citing its own sources.

The article says that currently, Bitfinex does not have available methods for making fiat deposits, since all deposits in USD, EUR, JPY, and GBP have been suspended.

Investors believe that problems with the trading platform arose because of HSBC, which blocked the private account of the exchange.

The company has stated that it is still facing some difficulties when working with fiat transactions. Nevertheless, they continue to do everything that depends on them in order to reduce any waiting time associated with fiat deposit and withdrawal.

The article clarifies that since the interaction has been carried out through a private account, it is not clear whether HSBC knows at all that Bitfinex uses their services.

Earlier, Chinese over-the-counter trader Zhao Dong, who has a stake in Bitfinex, said that the exchange does not work with HSBC, and it had transferred its funds from Puerto-Rican Noble Bank to another, more reliable bank.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?

  • Last week, rumors about the Bitfinex’s insolvency started to appear. The company has denied this information and reported that it faces certain difficulties when working with fiat, but is trying to make the deposit and withdrawal as comfortable as possible.
  • Earlier this month, it became known that Noble Bank may be on the verge of bankruptcy and frantically was seeking funding. Bitfinex said that the problems of Noble Bank do not affect its assets.
