Brazil launched its first ever blockchain association today, the Brazilian Association of Cryptocurrencies and Blockchain (ABCB), CryptoGlobe reports.

Started by Brazilian fintech Atlas Project, the association aims to bring more regulation, debate, and progress to the cryptocurrency/blockchain space in the country.

Heading up the new body is Fernando Furlan, who held a previous role as president of the Brazilian Administrator Council for Economic Defense (CADE), an independent agency reporting to the Ministry of Justice.

The association looks to raise awareness of blockchain tech use cases and introduce more regulatory measures in the space, although significant events such as the World Cup and the Brazilian presidential elections are expected to priority and delay regulatory efforts the year.

Atlas Project plans to launch other similar projects in the future to keep pace with the cryptocurrency and blockchain innovations and developments.
