Cryptocurrency exchange Bitfinex has added support to two fiat currencies - British Pounds (GBP) and Japanese Yen ((JPY), the company said in a blog post.

“We are very pleased to add to our selection of fiat offerings and to do our part in making cryptocurrencies more globally accessible,” Bitfinex CEO Jean-Louis van der Velde. “We are making a strong push for improved transparency and worldwide regulatory collaboration, and our ability to add support for these markets is a strong win on that front,” he added.

Bitfinex users will now be able to trade through the following fiat pairs:

  • Bitcoin – BTC/JPY & BTC/GBP
  • Ethereum – ETH/EUR, ETH/JPY & ETH/GBP
  • NEO – NEO/EUR, NEO/JPY & NEO/GBP
  • EOS – EOS/EUR, EOS/JPY & EOS/GBP
  • IOTA – IOTA/JPY & IOTA/GBP

However, many digital currency assets which are among the leading ones out of the list by market capitalization like Ripple’s XRP (TIKER: XRP.EXANTE), Litecoin (TIKER: LTC/USD.BITFINEX) or Monero (TIKER: XMR/USD.BITFINEX) still are only available to be used against USD or BTC with no other option for the users of Euro, GBP or Yen.

As highlighted by the company, the addition of these new trading pairs to Bitfinex will facilitate improved accessibility and convenience for traders, unlocking greater levels of liquidity for the exchange and the cryptocurrency market as a whole.
