Bitcoin Сommunity Calls to Abandon GitHub

Bitcoin Core developers along with the other crypto enthusiasts have reacted negatively to the announcement that Microsoft has reached an agreement to take over a software development platform GitHub. The move comes despite that in the past GitHub reiterated its will to remain autonomous, even planning to enter the IPO in 2017. But the company has been without a CEO ever since its co-founder Chris Wanstrath left his post in August 2017 and has not turned a profit ever since its creation a decade ago. So the timing of the takeover is coming in handy for the financial stability of the company, and less do for the users, which are now calling to abandon GitHub in favor of an independent platform. The main alternative appears to be a long term rival of GitHub, the GitLab repository. #movingtogitlab hashtag is gaining popularity among the Twitter users.

Ripple Donates $50 Million to Top Universities

A startup behind the 3rd largest cryptocurrency by capitalisation - Ripple (XRP/USD) looks to speed up the growth of the blockchain and crypto technologies. It has committed to donating $50 million to 17 leading universities to boost academic blockchain research. Interestingly, the donation will be conducted in dollars, not in XPR. University Blockchain Research Initiative aims for the donated funds to be applied on research and development projects relating to blockchain, cryptocurrency and digital payments. Some of them will involve the technology exploited by Ripple and its cryptocurrency (XRP ) - but that is not a requirement since company will allow for universities to choose their own paths of research.

However, what he did say is: “Don't think that I have a chance of winning. I do not.” as he is instead hoping for a platform to express his views.
